Slocum-Dickson Medical Group 2026: MyChart & Urgent Care

Central New York patient guide · Doctors, urgent care, MyChart, testing and billing

Move Through Slocum-Dickson Care Without Choosing the Wrong Campus or Department

Slocum-Dickson Medical Group is a physician-owned multispecialty practice serving Central New York from its Burrstone Campus in New Hartford, Business Park Campus in Utica and French Road Sleep Lab. The group combines primary care, specialty medicine, urgent care, laboratory testing, imaging and rehabilitation.

This guide explains the complete patient process inside one page: how to find a doctor, choose the right campus, use urgent care, prepare for a first visit, understand the newer MyChart system, verify insurance, avoid unexpected outside-lab charges, pay a bill and request older medical records.

Do not use MyChart or Urgent Care for a life-threatening emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department for chest pain, severe shortness of breath, possible stroke, loss of consciousness, uncontrolled bleeding or another serious emergency.
Important MyChart record change: As of June 1, 2026, St. Joseph’s MyChart information is no longer available to Slocum-Dickson patients. For Slocum-Dickson records dated before October 29, 2025, contact Health Information Management at 315-798-1498.

Start with the correct care path

Which Slocum-Dickson service should you use?

PRIMARY OR SPECIALTY OFFICE Planned or ongoing medical care

Use a scheduled office appointment for preventive care, chronic-condition management, specialist evaluation, medication follow-up, surgical planning and symptoms that do not require immediate treatment.

Best for: annual care, diabetes, blood pressure, allergy, neurology, dermatology, orthopedics, OB/GYN, pediatrics and long-term treatment.
URGENT CARE One minor problem that needs prompt care

Slocum-Dickson Urgent Care treats patients over age two for a single non-life-threatening illness or injury. Online check-in is strongly recommended.

Best for: common illness, minor cuts, sprains, possible uncomplicated broken bones, backaches and selected work-related injuries.
911 OR EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT Potential threat to life or function

An emergency department is appropriate when waiting for routine or urgent care may endanger breathing, circulation, consciousness, the brain or another vital function.

Use emergency care for: chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, possible stroke, unconsciousness, uncontrolled bleeding or major trauma.
Simple decision rule: Scheduled office for planned care, Urgent Care for one minor same-day problem, and 911 or an emergency department for severe or potentially life-threatening symptoms.

Go directly to the patient task you need

The important instructions are explained below so patients do not have to open several pages merely to understand what to do.

Campus decision guide

Which Slocum-Dickson location handles your service?

Campus addresses, major departments and arrival guidance
Location Address Major departments Before traveling
Burrstone Campus 1729 Burrstone Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Urgent Care, laboratory, imaging, rehabilitation, allergy, endocrinology, hematology/oncology, neurology, eye care, orthopedics, pain care, podiatry and rheumatology. Confirm the department, floor, reception desk and correct entrance.
Business Park Campus 117 Business Park Drive, Utica, NY 13502 Breast Care, dermatology, imaging, OB/GYN and infertility, pediatrics, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Do not assume laboratory service is available; the dedicated lab page currently lists this lab as temporarily closed.
Sleep Lab 615 French Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 Sleep-study and sleep-laboratory services. Review arrival, medication, sleep and overnight instructions provided by the sleep department.

Choose the correct entrance at Burrstone

Main entrance

Use for most scheduled physician and specialty appointments unless your instructions name another entrance.

Urgent Care entrance

Urgent Care is accessed from the rear/lower-level area. Current temporary routing should be checked before arrival.

Rehabilitation entrance

Use for physical and rehabilitation services when instructed. Wheelchairs are available at the three published entrances.

Local navigation tip: Save the campus, entrance, department, provider and floor together. “Slocum-Dickson” alone is not enough because services are divided between campuses and reception areas.
Doctor search workflow

How to find the correct Slocum-Dickson provider

Start with the needed specialty Search by department when you do not already know a provider’s name. This prevents selecting a clinician who does not treat the condition or age group involved.
Review the provider’s campus The directory shows whether the provider works at Burrstone, Business Park or another service location.
Check whether a referral is required Some managed-care plans require a primary-care referral before a specialty appointment can be covered.
Confirm new-patient availability A provider listed in the directory may not have immediate new-patient openings.
Verify the exact insurance product Give the office the insurer, plan, network, member ID and type of coverage shown on the card.
Call the department directly when possible Provider pages show department telephone numbers, which may be more efficient than starting with the general switchboard.
Provider-selection call script
“I need a [primary care or specialty] provider for [brief reason]. I am a [new/existing] patient with [full insurance plan and network]. Is this provider accepting patients, at which campus, and do I need a referral, prior authorization or records before scheduling?”
New-patient process

How to become a Slocum-Dickson Medical Group patient

Insurance affects new-patient scheduling. Slocum-Dickson states that it will schedule new patients only when their insurance plan participates with the group.
Call New Patient Services Telephone 315-798-1578 and state whether you need primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN or a specialty department.
Read the entire insurance card Give the representative the exact product and network—not only the company name.
Ask whether your plan requires provider assignment Some plans require a designated primary-care physician, while certain products permit designation of a GYN physician.
Confirm referral and authorization rules Specialty consultations, imaging, procedures and treatment may require a referral, prior authorization or pre-certification.
Arrange transfer of relevant records Ask the new department what it needs before the first visit. A focused transfer may include recent notes, imaging, laboratory results, medication history and specialist reports.
Write down the complete appointment route Save the provider, campus, building entrance, floor, registration desk, arrival time and department number.
Existing-patient continuity option: The insurance page states that patients who have seen a Slocum-Dickson provider within the last three years may have a continuity-of-care option when a plan becomes out of network. This does not apply to plans on the group’s not-accepted list and must be confirmed before care.
Prevent check-in delays

What to bring to your first Slocum-Dickson appointment

Arrive 15 to 30 minutes before the appointment
Government-issued photo identification
Current primary and secondary insurance cards
Referral or authorization when required
All current medications or a complete medication list
Medication allergies and past serious reactions
Relevant outside records and test results
Preferred pharmacy name and location
Copay or other expected registration payment
Questions written in priority order
Medication safety tip: Slocum-Dickson asks patients to bring all current medications to each office visit. Original containers help the care team confirm the drug, dose, directions and prescribing clinician.
New symptom

Write when it started, what makes it better or worse, associated symptoms and treatments already tried.

Chronic condition

Bring home readings, recent medication changes, specialist updates and a list of current concerns.

Procedure or imaging

Confirm preparation, medication restrictions, fasting, transportation and insurance authorization.

Same-day non-emergency care

How Slocum-Dickson Urgent Care works

Age requirement

Urgent Care treats individuals over two years of age.

Visit focus

The service is designed for one minor, non-life-threatening problem.

Clinical support

A physician is onsite, with access to laboratory, X-ray and physical-therapy resources.

Urgent Care location, hours and access
Item Current published detail Patient action
Location Lower level at the rear of the Burrstone Campus, 1729 Burrstone Road. Check the temporary-location notice because internal routing may change.
Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Use online check-in before traveling.
Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Check holiday or closure notices first.
Phone 315-798-1400 Call for department questions, not to replace emergency services.
Walk-ins Accepted when schedule capacity allows. A walk-in is not guaranteed to be seen when the schedule is full.

Online check-in: what actually happens

Reserve an estimated place Open the official Urgent Care page and use its online check-in button to join the virtual queue.
Enter accurate contact details Use a mobile number that can receive the queue’s text updates.
Wait away from the clinic The system is designed to let patients remain at home or another convenient place instead of waiting the entire time onsite.
Watch for timing updates Text messages provide estimated-time changes and tell the patient when to arrive.
Follow the current entrance signs Urgent Care has used temporary lower-level routing across from Rehabilitation, so check the live notice.
Diagnostic limitation: The urgent-care page states that weekday CT is available until 6 p.m. and ultrasound until approximately late afternoon. CT and ultrasound are not available on weekends through the urgent-care workflow, and CT may require insurance authorization.
Skip Urgent Care for emergency warning signs. Call 911 or use the nearest emergency room for chest pain, severe shortness of breath, possible stroke, loss of consciousness or another severe condition.

Prevent a second laboratory bill

Why some Slocum-Dickson tests create an outside-lab charge

Most routine testing may be completed onsite, but special testing can be sent to an outside laboratory. The outside organization may issue a separate bill, deductible, copayment or coinsurance charge.

Common outside laboratory

The billing page states that special tests are most often sent to Labcorp.

Other listed laboratories

Quest, Millennium, NeoGenomics, CBL Pathology, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Tests more likely to leave the site

Selected drug screens, biopsies and specialized laboratory studies.

Ask whether the test is performed onsite The ordering office or laboratory should be able to identify whether the specimen is expected to leave Slocum-Dickson.
Ask for the outside laboratory name Insurance coverage depends on the organization that actually processes the specimen.
Verify that laboratory with your insurer Confirm that the outside lab is in network for the exact plan.
Ask whether an alternative is available When the selected outside lab is not covered, ask whether the order can be routed to a participating laboratory.
Compare separate explanations of benefits The office visit, specimen collection, pathology interpretation and outside testing may appear as different claims.

Payments and account balances

How Slocum-Dickson billing works

Registration collects current information Present accurate insurance and demographic details. Registration areas are available on each floor of the Burrstone building.
Pay the required copay Copays required by the insurance contract are expected during registration.
Slocum-Dickson submits the claim Claim submission is a convenience or contractual service and does not automatically eliminate the patient’s payment responsibility.
The insurer processes coverage Review the insurer’s explanation of benefits for allowed charges, payment, adjustments, deductible and patient responsibility.
The remaining balance becomes due Non-covered and partially covered services may leave a patient or guarantor balance.
Request a plan before the account becomes delinquent Patients facing financial difficulty should call the number on the statement or Business Office to arrange a budget plan.
Online payment

Eligible bills can be paid through MyChart after account activation.

Older bills

Bills dated before April 2, 2019 cannot be paid through MyChart.

Problem-solving guide

Common Slocum-Dickson problems and the next useful step

You arrived at the wrong campus Call the department immediately. Do not assume the office can move the appointment to the other campus.
You do not have a required referral Contact the primary-care office and insurer before the visit. The specialist cannot guarantee coverage when authorization is missing.
Urgent Care’s virtual queue is full Call the department or ask where to seek timely evaluation. Use emergency care when symptoms are severe.
The Business Park laboratory appears in an old directory The current laboratory page lists it as temporarily closed. Use Burrstone or confirm reopening before traveling.
A result appears before your doctor calls Do not diagnose yourself from the portal flag. Contact the ordering office for interpretation and next steps.
An older result disappeared after the portal change Request the official record from Health Information Management at 315-798-1498.
You received a separate laboratory bill Determine which outside laboratory processed the specimen, then compare its claim with your insurance benefits.
Your plan name appears on the accepted list but the claim was denied Confirm the exact product, network, provider, referral and authorization rather than relying on the insurer’s general brand name.
You cannot pay the full balance Contact the Business Office before the account progresses to collection and request a budget plan.
You need immediate medical advice Call the treating office. MyChart messages can take three to five business days and are not for urgent care.
