Greater Kansas City primary care, portal, labs, imaging and telehealth
Use Encompass Medical Group as One Connected Kansas City Care Network
Encompass Medical Group is an independent primary care organization with more than 40 family medicine and internal medicine physicians, primary care nurse practitioners and five offices across the Greater Kansas City area.
This guide brings the patient process into one place: how to choose an office, schedule the correct visit, activate the portal, prepare for laboratory or imaging services, use telehealth, pay a bill and request records without confusing the practice with Encompass Health rehabilitation hospitals.
Confirm the organization before logging in.
This guide covers the Kansas City primary care practice at encompassmed.com. It is not Encompass Health, the separate national network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and home health services.
Do not use the portal or telehealth for an emergency.
Encompass specifically states that the portal is not for urgent medical problems and that telehealth is not appropriate for chest pain or shortness of breath. Call 911 for severe or potentially life-threatening symptoms.
Service area
Five offices across the Greater Kansas City metro.
Primary care
Family medicine, internal medicine and nurse practitioners.
Diagnostics
On-site blood draws, radiology and Premier Imaging.
Online access
Portal, electronic statements and online bill payment.

Start with the correct department
Which Encompass Medical Group service should you choose?
PRIMARY CARE OFFICERoutine, preventive or ongoing care
Choose a family medicine or internal medicine provider for annual exams, common illness, preventive screening, chronic-condition management, medication review and care coordination.
Best for: checkups, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, medication management, referrals and ongoing symptoms.
LAB OR IMAGINGYour provider ordered a diagnostic service
Confirm the exact office or Premier Imaging location, preparation instructions, insurance network and whether an order or prior authorization is required.
Best for: blood testing, X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, MRI, CT, echocardiogram and bone density.
TELEHEALTH OR EMERGENCY CAREYou need remote care or urgent escalation
Ask your provider whether telehealth fits the problem. Call 911 for serious chest pain, severe breathing problems, loss of consciousness or another emergency.
Telehealth may fit selected follow-ups and minor conditions. It cannot replace a necessary hands-on examination.
Most efficient route:
Call the office where your provider practices, explain the exact task and ask whether the appointment, blood draw, imaging study and follow-up can occur at the same location.
Jump directly to your patient task
Official links are reserved mainly for the final live action. The important instructions, preparation rules and troubleshooting steps are explained inside this page.
Avoid the wrong website
Encompass Medical Group and Encompass Health are different organizations
Use Encompass Medical Group when
Your provider is in Grandview, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Lenexa or Kansas City.
You receive family medicine or internal medicine care.
Your portal address contains encompassmed.myezyaccess.com.
Your paperwork refers to Premier Imaging or the Wornall campus.
You may need Encompass Health when
You are researching inpatient rehabilitation after hospitalization.
Your documents mention a rehabilitation hospital or home health service.
Your portal, bill or facility address is outside the Kansas City Encompass Medical Group network.
Your paperwork uses the Encompass Health name and logo.
Payment safety check:
Compare the provider, service date and organization name on the statement before entering a guarantor ID, date of birth or payment information.
Encompass Medical Group locations in Missouri and Kansas
Two official pages currently disagree about closing times.
The central contact page lists Independence until 5 p.m. and Lenexa until 5:30 p.m. Their individual clinic pages show Independence until 5:30 p.m. and Lenexa until 5 p.m. Call the office before a late-afternoon visit.
Family and internal medicine, medical weight management, mammography, ultrasound, plain film, echocardiogram, bone density, lab and Premier Imaging.
Do not choose by distance alone.
Lenexa may be more convenient for Johnson County patients, while the Wornall campus offers the broadest published advanced-imaging menu. Your provider’s office, insurance network and required service should drive the final choice.
Which Encompass office is the best fit for your visit?
Choose by provider
A physician or nurse practitioner normally practices from a specific office. Confirm the provider’s current location before submitting a request.
Choose by diagnostic need
Ask whether the office performs your required mammogram, ultrasound, X-ray, echocardiogram, bone-density scan, blood draw or advanced study.
Choose by insurance network
A plan may cover one facility, laboratory or imaging provider differently from another. Verify the exact location and service.
You need comprehensive MRI or CT services
Ask about Premier Imaging at the Wornall campus.
You live or work in Johnson County
Check whether the Lenexa office has your preferred provider and required service.
You need an early weekday appointment
Hickman Mills publishes the earliest opening time at 7:15 a.m.
You need blood drawn near another Encompass office
Encompass states that patients may use any Encompass draw location when another office is more convenient.
Appointment workflow
How to schedule the correct Encompass Medical Group appointment
Decide whether the visit is new, follow-up or diagnostic
Explain whether you need to establish care, complete a physical, discuss symptoms, review medication, obtain a referral, have blood drawn or schedule imaging.
Find the provider’s current clinic
Use the provider-by-location directory, then call that office directly.
State whether you are a new patient
New-patient visits may require additional time, registration and records from previous providers.
Give the complete insurance product
Read the insurer, product and network name from the card. Do not ask only whether the office accepts the insurance company.
Ask whether a referral or authorization is needed
This is especially important for imaging, specialty referrals and services controlled by your health plan.
Confirm in-person versus telehealth
The provider decides whether a virtual visit is clinically appropriate.
Record every appointment detail
Save the provider, location, suite, date, arrival time, preparation instructions and direct office number.
Ask how test results will be communicated
Confirm whether results will appear in the portal, be discussed by telephone or require a follow-up appointment.
Appointment call script
“I need an appointment for [reason]. I am a [new/established] patient. My insurance is [full product and network]. Does this provider accept my plan and new-patient status? Should this be in person or telehealth, what records or forms should I bring, and will I need laboratory or imaging services?”
Prepare before check-in

Where can you have blood drawn?
Encompass states that a patient may be directed to the draw station at the provider’s office but may use another Encompass location when that office is more convenient.
Network-protection process:
The in-house laboratory performs testing for Encompass in-network patients. Encompass says out-of-network samples are referred to an appropriate reference laboratory to help reduce unexpected patient expense.
Confirm whether fasting is required
Ask whether morning collection is preferred
Verify which medicines should be taken normally
Bring the laboratory order when instructed
Confirm the laboratory network with your insurer
Ask when results should reach the provider
Laboratory call script
“My provider ordered [test]. Can I have the blood drawn at this Encompass location? Do I need to fast, should I take my usual medicines, which laboratory will process the sample under my insurance, and when should I expect my provider to receive the result?”

Important safety question
Mammogram
Do not apply body powder, body lotion or deodorant before the exam. Bring prior images or information needed to obtain them.
Tell staff about breast symptoms, procedures, implants and pregnancy possibility.
Abdominal, gallbladder or renal ultrasound
The posted guide says not to eat or drink after midnight before the examination.
Confirm whether necessary morning medicines may be taken with water.
Pelvic ultrasound
The guide instructs patients to drink 32 ounces of noncarbonated fluid to fill the bladder and not urinate until after the examination.
Confirm the exact drinking time with the imaging office when scheduling.
Selected CT studies
The posted guide uses a four-hour no-food-or-drink instruction for several CT and CTA examinations.
Ask whether contrast, kidney testing or diabetes-medication instructions apply.
CT abdomen or pelvis
Oral barium may be required. The guide instructs patients unable to collect it ahead of time to arrive early enough to drink it before the scan.
Confirm the exact fasting, barium and arrival instructions for your order.
MRI or MRA
Tell the scheduler about a pacemaker, implanted devices or pumps, metal in the eyes or vena-cava filters. Leave jewelry and valuables at home.
Do not assume an implant is MRI-safe without device-specific screening.
Information to report before the exam
Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
Iodine or contrast allergy
Asthma or previous contrast reaction
Diabetes and metformin-type medication
Pacemaker or implanted medical device
Metal fragments, especially in the eyes
Kidney disease when contrast may be used
Claustrophobia or difficulty lying still
Do not stop necessary daily medicine on your own.
The Encompass guide tells patients not to withhold required daily medicine unless imaging staff provides different instructions.
How Encompass Medical Group telehealth appointments work
Patients must call the provider’s office to request and schedule telehealth. The physician or nurse practitioner decides whether a virtual visit is suitable.
Telehealth may be considered for
Allergies
Cough or cold
Selected fever concerns
Established-patient chronic-condition follow-up
Diabetes follow-up
Depression or anxiety follow-up
Imaging or laboratory follow-up
Medication management or refills
Selected COVID-related concerns
Telehealth should not be used for
A problem requiring a hands-on examination
Abdominal pain
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
A medical emergency
Call your provider’s office
Describe the reason for the visit and ask whether the provider approves a telehealth appointment.
Prepare a compatible device
Encompass uses Doximity video. Use a smartphone or tablet that can receive a text message and has a working camera, microphone and speaker.
Choose a quiet, private location
Do not join while driving. Use adequate lighting and stable internet.
Open the text link
At the appointment time, the provider sends the visit link by text message.
Allow camera and audio access
Approve the browser or device permission requests when prompted.
Have health information ready
Keep medicines, symptoms, temperature, blood pressure, glucose readings or other relevant home measurements nearby.
Telehealth cost:
Encompass states that virtual visits are billed to insurance like a regular office visit. Copay, coinsurance and deductible obligations still apply.
Technical assistance:
Encompass lists 888-666-2352, extension 665, for virtual-visit support.
Encompass does not publish a current plan-by-plan insurance directory on its patient site.
Verify the complete product with the clinic and insurer before treatment, laboratory work or imaging.
Read the complete plan name
Include the insurer, HMO or PPO designation, employer or marketplace product and network shown on the card.
Verify the provider
Confirm that the selected physician or nurse practitioner is in network.
Verify the exact clinic
Missouri and Kansas offices may appear differently in an insurer directory.
Verify the laboratory
Ask whether the sample will be processed internally or sent to Quest, Labcorp or another reference laboratory.
Verify imaging and interpretation
Confirm Premier Imaging and the radiologist interpretation under the plan.
Ask about authorization
Obtain the approval number for an MRI, CT or other service when the plan requires prior authorization.
Insurance call script
“I am scheduling with [provider] at [exact Encompass location] for [visit or test]. Is the provider, clinic, laboratory, imaging facility and interpreting radiologist in network under my exact plan? Is authorization required, and what copay, deductible or coinsurance should I expect?”
Cross-state tip:
Patients who live in Kansas but use a Missouri office—or the reverse—should confirm that their plan’s local network crosses the state line. Do not assume metro-wide access means every location is covered.

Online payment methods
Encompass accepts online credit card, debit card and checking or savings account payments through ACH.

How to request, review or correct an Encompass medical record
Patient portal request
The secure portal includes an option to request medical records. Use the patient’s own account and identify the visit or date range needed.
Clinic-assisted request
Contact the treating location when portal access is unavailable or when records must be sent directly to another provider.
Rights described in the Encompass privacy notice

Use a specific date range
Request the smallest range that solves the current need.
Name the documents
Examples include visit notes, laboratory results, imaging reports, medication lists, billing records or the complete chart.
Identify the recipient
State whether the copy is for you, another physician, an insurer, an attorney or another authorized person.
Request a secure delivery method
Ask about portal delivery, secure electronic transfer, fax or paper copy.
Submit an amendment request in writing
Explain which entry is disputed and why you believe it is incorrect or incomplete.
Privacy concerns:
Encompass lists its Privacy Officer at 913-495-2200 and publishes privacy@encompassmed.com for online privacy questions. The notice states that patients will not face retaliation for filing a privacy complaint.
Results, refills, referrals and follow-up troubleshooting
A laboratory result is not visible
It may still be processing, under provider review or performed by an outside reference laboratory. Contact the ordering office after the expected timeframe.
An imaging result has not been discussed
Confirm that the radiologist’s report reached the ordering provider and ask how the clinical interpretation will be communicated.
A result is flagged abnormal
Do not diagnose yourself from a portal flag. The importance depends on the test, symptoms, history and reference range.
A routine medicine is running low
Contact the office before the last doses. Include the medicine, strength, instructions and correct pharmacy.
The pharmacy has no prescription
Confirm the pharmacy location and ask whether the medicine needs a visit, monitoring test or insurer approval.
A specialist has not called
Ask whether the referral was submitted, which office received it and whether insurance authorization is complete.
You were hospitalized outside Encompass
Arrange primary-care follow-up and provide the discharge summary, updated medication list and pending-test information.
Symptoms become severe
Call the clinic for timely guidance or call 911 when the symptoms may be life-threatening.
Result follow-up script
“I completed [test] on [date] at [location]. Can you confirm whether the result and radiology or laboratory report reached the ordering provider, whether it has been reviewed and how I should receive the interpretation and next-step instructions?”
Kansas City patient shortcuts
Practical local tips that can prevent another trip
01
Call before a late visit
Independence and Lenexa have conflicting closing times on current official pages.
02
Match office and provider
Do not assume every provider rotates through all five clinics.
03
Use another draw station
Ask whether blood can be drawn at a more convenient Encompass office.
04
Protect imaging coverage
Verify the facility and interpreting radiologist before an advanced scan.
05
Bring prior mammograms
Comparison images can reduce delays and unnecessary repeat work.
06
Keep email current
The portal activation, verification code and electronic statements depend on the recorded email.
07
Do not cross the state line blindly
Confirm that a Kansas or Missouri clinic participates in your exact network.
08
Ask how results return
Portal release and clinical interpretation may happen at different times.
09
Save every direct number
The treating office is usually more useful than a general website when a referral, refill or order is missing.
