15th Medical Group – Hickam Clinic 2026: Appointments, Pharmacy & TRICARE

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam · 2026 patient guide

Navigate Hickam Clinic From Appointment to Pharmacy Without Losing a Day to the Wrong Queue

The 15th Medical Group – Hickam Clinic is an outpatient military treatment facility at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. It provides primary care and supporting services for eligible military beneficiaries, but each clinic has its own eligibility, appointment, referral, lunch-break and walk-in rules.

This page brings those rules together: who gets appointment priority, how to use MHS GENESIS, where dependents and active duty members receive primary care, how pharmacy activation works, when a referral should move to Tripler or the network, and what to do when Hickam cannot provide the care you need.

Hickam Clinic does not have an emergency room. For a condition that may threaten life, limb, eyesight or safety, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not travel to Building 559 expecting emergency-department treatment.
Location

755 Scott Circle, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI 96853-5399.

General hours

Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with department exceptions.

Appointments

888-683-2778, also written as 888-MTF-APPT.

Patient portal

MHS GENESIS for appointments, messages, records and prescription refills.

Emergency room

Not available at Hickam Clinic. Emergency care is off-site.

Start here

Which Hickam medical route should you use?

ROUTINE / PRIMARY CARE Use your assigned Hickam care team

Use primary care for routine illness, chronic-condition follow-up, preventive care, medication questions and the first evaluation of a problem that may need specialty treatment.

Start with: Sky Warrior, Ohana, Pediatrics, Women’s Health or the clinic assigned to your enrollment category.
AFTER HOURS / URGENT Get advice before guessing where to go

When Hickam is closed and the concern is not an emergency, use the local after-hours line or the MHS Nurse Advice Line. They can help determine the appropriate level of care.

After hours: 808-448-6000. Nurse Advice Line: 1-800-874-2273.
EMERGENCY Do not wait for Hickam Clinic

Life-threatening illness, severe injury, serious mental-health emergency, loss of consciousness, severe breathing trouble or threats to life, limb or eyesight require emergency care.

Action: Call 911 or use the nearest emergency department.
Simple local rule: Hickam is primarily scheduled outpatient care. When your problem requires hospital-level emergency treatment, the correct destination is outside the Hickam clinic building.

Go straight to the Hickam Clinic task you need

The rules are explained on this page first. Official portals are reserved mainly for the final live action.

Access to care

Who gets appointment priority at the 15th Medical Group?

Not every TRICARE beneficiary or person working on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam has the same appointment priority. Department of Defense access rules affect whether routine care is guaranteed or available only when capacity remains.

Higher appointment priority
  1. Active duty service members.
  2. Active duty family members enrolled in TRICARE Prime.
  3. Active duty family members using TRICARE Young Adult – Prime Option.
Generally space-available
  • Active duty family members using TRICARE Select.
  • TRICARE Young Adult – Select users.
  • Retired service members and eligible family members.
  • DOD civilians and contractors.
Pharmacy is different: Patients who receive medical care only on a space-available basis may still use the military pharmacy when otherwise eligible for the TRICARE pharmacy benefit.
Keep DEERS current. Incorrect address, eligibility, family-member or enrollment information can create problems with appointments, referrals, portal access and claims even when the medical clinic itself has an opening.
Appointment workflow

How to make a Hickam Clinic appointment without getting routed twice

Identify your assigned clinic first Active duty members and family or retiree populations may be routed to different primary care teams. Check your PCM assignment rather than selecting a clinic based only on which floor looks closest.
Use MHS GENESIS for online options Sign in with your CAC or DS Logon. Available appointment types can be booked or cancelled online when the clinic has enabled that function.
Call when online booking does not show the visit Call 888-683-2778. Some specialty or clinic appointments require telephone scheduling even when you already use MHS GENESIS.
Explain what you need in one sentence State whether the visit is routine, acute, preventive, pediatric, women’s health, dental or related to an existing referral. This helps the appointment agent route you to the correct schedule.
Ask whether a referral is required Specialty care may require an order and authorization from your primary care manager before you can schedule with Tripler, Makalapa or a civilian network provider.
Save the exact building, wing and room Hickam departments occupy different floors and wings, and physical therapy is in Building 1113 rather than the main Building 559 clinic.
Check for training-day closure Several departments specifically close on the third Thursday of each month for training. Do not rely only on a previous appointment’s weekday schedule.
Useful appointment script
“I am enrolled with [PCM/clinic] and need an appointment for [short reason]. Is this something my primary care team handles, or do I need a referral? Please confirm the date, arrival time, building, floor or wing, and anything I need to complete before I arrive.”
Prevent an avoidable delay

What to check before driving to Hickam Clinic

Valid military or other authorized installation identification
Correct clinic and PCM assignment
Exact Building 559 wing, floor or separate building
Appointment start time and requested arrival time
Current medication list and allergies
Referral or authorization details when applicable
Outside medical records or imaging requested by your provider
Forms for school, sports, duty, work or physical requirements
Updated DEERS and contact information
Current training-day, holiday or weather closure status
Local navigation tip: Write down the wing and room number before parking. “Hickam Clinic” is not one front desk for every service; lab, radiology, pharmacy, women’s health, pediatrics and records have different locations inside the facility.
Primary care

Sky Warrior and Ohana clinics serve different patient needs

Sky Warrior Clinic

Sky Warrior provides active-duty-focused primary care including acute and chronic illness care, personal health assessments and disease management.

  • Diabetes management
  • Hypertension management
  • High cholesterol management
  • Obesity management
  • Case management
  • Behavioral health support
  • Specialty referrals

Ohana Clinic

Ohana provides primary care for dependents and retirees, including acute illness, chronic conditions, preventive services, disease management and case management.

Location: Second Floor, C-Wing.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Daily closure: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Why the PCM visit matters: Minor procedures and some specialty services depend on evaluation by the primary care manager. Starting with the PCM can prevent a referral from being rejected for missing documentation.
Children’s care

Hickam Pediatrics: ages, well visits, acute care and walk-ins

The Pediatrics Clinic serves children from newborn through age 14. Its schedule separates many well-child visits from sick visits to reduce unnecessary exposure between healthy and ill children.

W
Well-child care

Routine checks begin shortly after birth and continue through infancy, toddler years and annually as the child grows.

24h
Acute appointments

The clinic schedules acute visits and aims to handle many short-notice concerns, but it does not have urgent-care capabilities.

S
Sports physicals

Annual sports physical requirements can often be completed during the child’s normal well visit.

Published pediatric walk-in procedures

What can be handled through pediatric walk-in service
Service Rule Useful preparation
Sore-throat swab The child must meet clinical criteria before rapid testing and culture. Know when symptoms began, fever history and known exposures.
Weight check Available for enrolled patients when advised by their provider. Bring any feeding or growth instructions previously provided.
Suture or staple removal Removal occurs only after the recommended amount of healing time. Bring discharge paperwork showing the placement date and instructions.
Wart treatment A provider must first evaluate the wart before walk-in treatment. Do not assume the first visit will be treatment-only.
Pediatrics hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., closed 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Published walk-in periods are 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
Portal scheduling limitation: Pediatrics does not currently offer direct patient-portal booking. Families can send an MHS GENESIS message requesting an appointment, and the clinic states it will call to schedule.
Women’s health

Women’s Health services available inside Building 559

Preventive care
  • Well-woman examinations
  • Pap smears
  • Clinical breast examinations
Reproductive care
  • Birth control
  • Pregnancy testing

Appointment: 888-683-2778, option path 1, 4, 3.

Pregnancy emergency: Severe bleeding, severe abdominal pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath or another potentially life-threatening pregnancy complication should not wait for a routine Hickam appointment.
Monday walk-in service

Hickam’s contraceptive clinic does not require an appointment

The 15th Medical Group operates a walk-in contraceptive clinic for enrolled TRICARE beneficiaries age 14 and older.

IUD
Long-acting methods

IUD insertion and removal and Nexplanon insertion and removal are listed services.

Rx

High-use service

Hickam Pharmacy: the activation step patients commonly miss

A prescription being sent is not the same as it being ready. Hickam requires new and renewed prescriptions to be activated before the pharmacy dispenses them.

New prescription from a military provider

Your MTF clinician submits the prescription electronically The order reaches the military pharmacy system, but it still needs patient activation.
Activate with Q-Anywhere Q-Anywhere is the pharmacy’s preferred activation method. Follow the prompts and provide the requested beneficiary information.
Or activate at the pharmacy kiosk If you cannot use Q-Anywhere, enter the Hickam Pharmacy lobby and check in at the kiosk.
Wait for readiness confirmation Do not assume activation means immediate pickup. Processing depends on workload, prescription complexity and medication availability.

Prescription from a civilian provider

Ask the civilian provider to send the prescription electronically to DoDHickamephcy. The pharmacy publishes NCPDP/NPI identifier 1649379322. A hand-carried written prescription can be accepted, but Hickam describes that method as less preferred because it takes longer to enter.

How to refill an existing prescription

1. MHS GENESIS

Preferred method. Open the Rx Refills tab, choose the medication and select the pickup location.

2. Refill phone

Call 808-353-4649 and follow the automated prompts.

3. In person

Check in at the Hickam Pharmacy kiosk. Wait time depends on staffing and workload.

Pickup rules worth knowing before you leave home

Bring a valid uniformed services ID card
Children age 10 and older require valid identification for pickup
Another person’s prescription requires that beneficiary’s ID, copy or approved digital image
Unclaimed prescriptions are returned to stock after 10 business days
Verify that the medication is actually ready before making a special trip
Check quantity, name and instructions before leaving the pharmacy
OTC option: Eligible beneficiaries may receive a short course of selected over-the-counter medications for common minor problems. The program limits eligible users to two OTC medications per month and excludes certain categories such as children under age two, pregnant beneficiaries and some readiness-related populations.

Glucose tolerance tests and post-vasectomy semen analysis are also listed, with those services available only until 3 p.m.

Location: Second Floor, A-Wing, Room A215.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Phone: 808-448-6709.

Radiology

Hickam Radiology provides diagnostic X-ray services.

More advanced imaging may be routed elsewhere depending on the clinical order and referral.

Location: Second Floor, A-Wing, Room A226.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Phone: 808-448-6168.

Before a lab draw: Do not fast unless your ordering clinician specifically instructed you to do so. Some tests require fasting; many do not.
Preventive care

Hickam Immunizations serves active duty, retirees and dependents

The Immunizations Clinic provides routine inoculations for eligible active duty personnel, retirees and dependents. Seasonal influenza vaccination is offered to patients during the applicable season.

Location

Second Floor, A-Wing, Room A210, across from the laboratory.

Phone

808-448-6394

Published schedule

Weekday service with a midday closure and third-Thursday training closure.

Timing tip: The official page shows a midday gap in vaccine service. If a vaccination must be completed for deployment, school, travel or duty paperwork, call first instead of arriving during lunch.
Hickam Dental Clinic

Dental care, sick call and appointment rules

Hickam Dental Clinic provides general dentistry, prosthodontics and periodontics. During elevated health-protection conditions, routine services may be reduced so the clinic can prioritize readiness requirements.

Appointment

Call the dental front desk at 808-448-6371.

Hours

Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m., subject to federal-holiday and training closures.

Check-in

Third Floor, A-Wing.

Sick call is for acute dental problems. A dental problem that has existed for an extended period should generally be scheduled rather than treated as sick call.
Physical therapy

Physical Therapy has stricter eligibility than many Hickam services

Hickam Physical Therapy currently states that it sees active duty personnel. Overflow active duty referrals and non-active-duty referrals that cannot be booked at Tripler may be deferred to the civilian network.

What Hickam PT handles

Active duty patients with an appropriate referral or acute physical therapy need may contact the clinic for scheduling.

Services not offered

The clinic specifically states that it does not provide aqua therapy, TBI rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation or pelvic-floor therapy.

Separate building: Physical Therapy is in Building 1113, across the street from the gym in the U-shaped building. It is not inside the main Building 559 clinic.

Phone: 808-448-6137

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Arrival tip: The clinic asks patients to arrive about 15 minutes early for required paperwork.
Specialty care

What happens after your Hickam provider enters a referral?

Your PCM evaluates the problem The primary care manager determines whether the issue can be handled at Hickam or requires specialty evaluation.
The referral is entered The clinical referral contains the diagnosis or reason for specialty evaluation and any supporting information.
Authorization and routing occur Depending on specialty availability and TRICARE rules, the referral may route to Tripler Army Medical Center, Makalapa Navy Clinic or an authorized civilian network provider.
Allow the initial referral process to move Hickam’s Referral Management page tells patients to wait about three days after learning the provider entered the referral.
Call when nothing happens If you have not been contacted, call the Central Hawaii Referral Center at 808-433-2262.
Verify before the specialty visit Confirm the specialist, location, authorization period, number of visits and whether additional testing must be completed first.
Referral office location: First Floor, Room A112, across from the pharmacy. Published hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Referral-status call script
“My PCM submitted a referral on [date] for [specialty]. I have not received scheduling information. Can you confirm whether it is authorized, where it was routed, the authorization dates and what number I should call to schedule?”

Troubleshooting

Common Hickam Clinic problems and the fastest next move

No appointment appears in MHS GENESIS Call 888-683-2778. Some appointment types are not enabled for direct online booking.
Your referral exists but nobody called After roughly three days, call the Central Hawaii Referral Center at 808-433-2262.
Your new prescription is not ready Confirm that you activated it. New and renewed prescriptions are not automatically placed into the dispensing queue.
A child needs same-day care Pediatrics may offer an acute appointment but is not an urgent-care clinic. Use the Nurse Advice Line when the appropriate level of care is unclear.
You arrived during a department lunch closure Individual departments may close midday even while the main facility remains open. Check the service-specific hours before driving.
You cannot book physical therapy Hickam PT currently prioritizes active duty patients. Non-active-duty referrals may be handled at Tripler or in the network.
Your provider is sending you for specialty care Ask exactly where the referral is being routed and whether you should wait for authorization before scheduling.

Local patient strategy

10 small Hickam Clinic habits that can save a second trip

01
Save the wing and room

Building 559 contains multiple departments, so a department name alone may not be enough.

02
Activate prescriptions first

A newly submitted prescription still needs activation before pharmacy processing.

03
Check third-Thursday closures

Several Hickam departments close for recurring training.

04
Do not assume every service runs until 4:30

Lab, dental, referrals and individual clinics can stop earlier.

05
Know your PCM

Primary care assignment affects appointments, referrals and which clinic should answer your question.

06
Give referrals three days

If no scheduling contact follows, call the Hawaii Referral Center rather than starting the referral again.

07
Use Q-Anywhere before joining a pharmacy queue

It is the pharmacy’s preferred activation workflow for new and renewed prescriptions.

08
Bring paperwork to pediatric visits

Tell the front desk at check-in when school, sports or other forms need provider completion.

09
Separate urgent from emergency

Hickam has no ER; emergency symptoms require a different destination immediately.

10
Update DEERS before a problem occurs

Correct enrollment and contact information reduces avoidable access and referral problems.
