Navigate OB-GYN, Pregnancy, Midwifery and Imaging Care Through Every Life Stage
Orange Coast Women’s Medical Group is a multi-location Orange County OB-GYN practice with physicians, hospitalists, nurse practitioners and certified nurse-midwives. Its services span preventive gynecology, pregnancy, birth, menopause, breast imaging, diagnostic testing and minimally invasive surgery.
This guide brings the important patient details into one page: seven locations, appointments, urgent calls, portal access, insurance, maternity billing, labor instructions, records, refill timing, cancellation fees and preparation for mammography or surgery.
GYNECOLOGY

MIDWIFERY
MAMMOGRAPHY
SURGERY
Call 911 for a serious or life-threatening emergency.
For an urgent medical problem that does not clearly require 911, call
949-829-5533. The practice says a same-day telephone nurse can help determine whether the patient should be seen in an office or emergency room, and an on-call provider is available after normal office hours.
Seven locations
Irvine, Laguna Hills, San Clemente, Tustin, Foothill Ranch, Mission Viejo and Newport Beach.
New Newport office
5190 Campus Drive; appointments began July 7, 2026.

ROUTINE OR PROBLEM GYNECOLOGY
Preventive or non-pregnancy care
Schedule gynecology for annual wellness visits, Pap or HPV screening, contraception, abnormal bleeding, pelvic symptoms, hormone concerns, menopause and other reproductive-health needs.
Best for: preventive exams, birth control, menstrual problems, pelvic pain, vaginal symptoms, sexual-health screening and menopause management.
PREGNANCY OR MIDWIFERY
Preconception through postpartum
Contact the OB coordinator or appointment team for pregnancy confirmation, prenatal care, high-risk evaluation, ultrasound, midwifery consultation, labor planning and postpartum follow-up.
Call the OB coordinator at 949-829-5533 extension 37349 when you believe you are pregnant.
URGENT OR EMERGENCY
Symptoms that should not wait
Call the main line for an urgent medical concern. Call 911 for severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, serious breathing trouble, stroke signs or another potentially life-threatening condition.
Pregnancy warning signs include broken water, bright-red bleeding, markedly decreased fetal movement or symptoms specifically identified by the obstetric team.
Fastest practical rule:
Use routine scheduling for preventive or stable concerns, call the nurse or on-call provider for urgent clinical guidance, and use 911 or emergency care when delay could place the patient at serious risk.

Lunch-hour planning:
Established locations publish a noon-to-1:30 p.m. office closure. Do not arrive during lunch to drop off forms, collect controlled-medication paperwork or ask an unscheduled clinical question without confirming staff availability.
Irvine building check:
16105 and 16305 Sand Canyon Avenue are different addresses. Save the correct number and suite in the navigation app before leaving.
Appointment workflow
How to schedule the correct OCWMG appointment
Identify the type of care
State whether the visit is for preventive gynecology, a new problem, pregnancy, midwifery, mammography, ultrasound, bone density, a procedure, surgery follow-up or menopause care.
Choose a provider or ask for the best match
Provider location, pregnancy practice, language, surgery expertise and new-patient availability may affect scheduling.
Call or use the official request system
Call
949-829-5533. Online scheduling is available for some new-patient appointments.
Give the exact insurance product
Read the full plan, network, member ID and medical group information from the card.
Ask about referral or authorization
HMO gynecology, procedures, mammography, surgery and diagnostic services may have different requirements.
Confirm the location
Save the provider, address, suite, arrival time and whether the office closes for lunch before the appointment.
Ask what the appointment includes
An annual preventive visit, pregnancy ultrasound, problem visit and procedure can be billed differently.
Know the cancellation deadline
Most office, diagnostic and procedure appointments require at least 48 business hours of notice. Surgery generally requires at least 72 business hours.
Appointment call script
“I need an appointment for [reason]. I am a [new/existing] patient. My insurance is [full plan and medical group]. Please confirm the right provider, exact office and suite, whether I need a referral or authorization, what the visit includes and what amount may be due.”
First-visit preparation
What a new patient should bring
Government-issued photo identification
Current primary insurance card
Secondary insurance information when applicable
Current medication and supplement list with doses
Medication allergies and reactions
Relevant prior OB-GYN records
Previous Pap, biopsy or operative reports
Prior mammogram and breast-imaging reports
Pregnancy records and ultrasound reports when transferring care
Referral or authorization required by insurance
Preferred pharmacy details
Copay or another accepted payment method
Arrival rule:
First-time patients are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment to complete registration and paperwork.
Request old records early.
The practice asks patients to contact their previous physician before the first appointment. Pregnancy transfers, abnormal Pap histories, previous surgery and breast-imaging comparisons are especially likely to require records before a useful clinical decision can be made.
Phreesia mobile registration
How pre-visit check-in works
Watch for the email
Eligible patients may receive an email from registration@phreesia-mail.com approximately 48 hours before the appointment with the subject “Check-in online for your upcoming appointment.”
Check the provider, date and location
The message should show the physician name, telephone number, appointment date, time and location.
Verify identity
Answer security questions involving date of birth, address and telephone number.
Enter the verification code
Phreesia may send a code by text or voicemail after the phone number is confirmed.
Update medical and demographic information
Review questions that would normally appear on a paper clipboard.
Upload cards and sign forms
Patients may photograph identification and insurance cards, sign policies and update a profile photo.
Pay applicable balances
Copays or outstanding balances may be collected during mobile check-in.
Complete it before the reminder text
If the process is unfinished, a text reminder may arrive approximately 24 hours before the appointment.
Message-safety check:
Confirm the provider name, appointment date and office telephone number before uploading identification or payment information. Do not complete a registration message for an appointment you did not make.

Women’s health through every stage
Gynecologic and preventive care explained
Annual wellness exams
Preventive history review, examination, screening discussion and age-appropriate health planning.
Family planning
Contraceptive counselling, pregnancy planning and discussion of medical or lifestyle factors affecting reproductive goals.
Menstrual and pelvic concerns
Evaluation of abnormal bleeding, painful periods, pelvic pain, fibroids, ovarian problems and other gynecologic symptoms.
Hormone concerns
Assessment of symptoms that may involve menstrual, reproductive, perimenopausal or menopausal hormone changes.
Menopause care
Individualized review of hot flashes, sleep, vaginal symptoms, bone health, sexual health and treatment options.
Sexual-health screening
STD screening, HPV testing or vaccination and discussion of symptoms or exposure risk.
Breast health
Clinical breast examination, screening plans and mammography coordination.
Cervical screening
Pap and HPV testing based on age, prior results, health history and current clinical guidance.
Bone and general prevention
Bone-density screening, comprehensive laboratory assessment and other preventive services when clinically appropriate.
Preventive versus problem visit:
An annual wellness appointment may not include full evaluation of every new symptom. Tell scheduling about pain, bleeding, discharge, a breast concern or another active problem so sufficient time and the correct visit type can be arranged.
Pregnancy first steps
What to do after a positive pregnancy test
Call the OB coordinator
Contact
949-829-5533 extension 37349 and explain the first day of the last menstrual period, home-test date and any symptoms.
Verify insurance and medical group
Ask whether the practice, provider, laboratory, ultrasound service and planned Hoag delivery hospital are in network.
Report warning symptoms immediately
Heavy bleeding, severe one-sided pain, fainting, shoulder pain or serious illness may require urgent assessment rather than waiting for a routine first visit.
Transfer relevant records
Prior pregnancy, fertility, surgery, genetic, Pap, blood-type and chronic-condition information may affect early planning.
Review medicines and supplements
Ask a qualified clinician before stopping a necessary prescription or starting a new medicine.
Confirm the first-visit plan
Ask whether the appointment includes pregnancy confirmation, ultrasound, examination, laboratory testing or only an intake discussion.
New-pregnancy call script
“I had a positive pregnancy test on [date]. The first day of my last menstrual period was [date]. I am having [no symptoms/symptoms]. My insurance is [full plan and medical group]. What appointment, records and urgent-warning instructions do I need?”
Monarch HMO note:
The practice says a new pregnancy patient assigned to Monarch may self-refer without a primary-care referral. Confirm active assignment and maternity coverage before the visit.
Pregnancy journey
What prenatal care may include
Pregnancy confirmation and dating
Review menstrual dates, symptoms, medical history and whether ultrasound or blood testing is appropriate.
Initial OB assessment
Discuss prior pregnancies, medications, genetic history, chronic conditions, infection risk, nutrition and planned care model.
Routine prenatal testing
Blood type, blood count, infection screening, urine testing and other laboratory work may be ordered based on clinical guidance.
Genetic and anatomical assessment
Screening choices, diagnostic testing and anatomy ultrasound depend on gestational age, personal preference and risk.
Gestational-diabetes screening
Glucose testing is generally performed during pregnancy according to the clinician’s timeline and individual risk.
Third-trimester preparation
Discuss fetal movement, preterm-labor warning signs, hospital planning, pediatrician selection, breastfeeding and delivery preferences.
Late-pregnancy monitoring
Non-stress testing, fluid assessment or maternal-fetal medicine may be added when clinically indicated.
Postpartum follow-up
Recovery, bleeding, blood pressure, mood, feeding, contraception and surgical-incision care may be reviewed.
Routine schedules change when risk changes.
Bleeding, hypertension, diabetes, fetal concerns, multiple pregnancy, preterm-labor symptoms or another complication may require additional appointments and services outside routine global maternity care.
Collaborative pregnancy care
When pregnancy may require high-risk monitoring
Orange Coast Women’s Medical Group says it works collaboratively with maternal-fetal medicine physicians when pregnancy risk requires additional expertise.
Maternal health conditions
Diabetes, kidney disease, epilepsy, high blood pressure, cancer, HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, sickle cell disease, lupus, arthritis and asthma may affect pregnancy planning.
Pregnancy history
Previous pregnancy complications, preterm birth, cesarean delivery or other obstetric history may change monitoring.
Fetal concerns
Chromosomal findings, anatomical differences, growth concerns or other fetal conditions may require specialist assessment.
Medication considerations
Some prescriptions can affect pregnancy risk. Do not stop an essential medication without advice from the prescribing clinician.
Lifestyle and age factors
Personal risk factors may affect the frequency or type of prenatal assessment.
Collaborative care
The OB-GYN, midwife and maternal-fetal medicine specialist may share different parts of care.
Cost and scheduling tip:
Maternal-fetal medicine consultations, specialized ultrasounds, amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling and fetal testing are generally outside the routine maternity global fee.
Labor and hospital pathway
When to call and where OCWMG patients deliver
Hoag Hospital Irvine
The Fudge Family Birthing Suites provide private family-centered labor, delivery and recovery rooms. The hospital has dedicated Cesarean operating rooms and a special-care nursery.
Birthing Suites: 949-517-3223
Hoag Hospital Newport Beach
The Sue & Bill Gross Women’s Pavilion includes labor and delivery suites, antepartum care, fetal diagnostic services and a neonatal intensive care unit.
Labor and Delivery: 949-764-5789
Call the provider immediately when
The water breaks or fluid continues leaking
Bright-red vaginal bleeding occurs
Fetal movement decreases markedly
The obstetric team gave a specific individualized warning
Published contraction guidance
First baby
Call when strong contractions are approximately three to five minutes apart, last 45 to 60 seconds, prevent normal conversation and are becoming more painful.
Second or later baby
The practice publishes approximately five-to-seven-minute spacing, with the same duration and increasing intensity considerations.
Call OCWMG before leaving for the hospital.
Use
949-829-5533 day or night. Tell the answering service your name, provider name, due date, whether this is the first baby and the current symptoms.
Choose a pediatrician before delivery.
The labor instructions say the hospital will ask for the newborn’s pediatrician. Confirm that the pediatrician participates in the insurance plan.
Hospital-based certified nurse-midwives
How OCWMG midwifery care works
Certified nurse-midwives provide women’s healthcare, pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum support. OCWMG’s model combines individualized midwifery care with hospital resources and physician support when complications develop.
Care before pregnancy
Preconception counselling, family planning and preparation for a healthy pregnancy.
Prenatal care
Personalized visits focused on the normal physiologic process of pregnancy and childbirth.
Hospital birth
Midwife-attended births take place at The Fudge Family Birthing Suites at Hoag Hospital Irvine.
Physician collaboration
OB-GYN physicians can assist when medical or surgical intervention is needed.
Postpartum care
Recovery, feeding, emotional health and transition after childbirth.
Gynecologic care
Midwives may also provide annual exams and menopausal-management services.
Water-birth policy:
The practice says it does not offer water birth. Jacuzzi tubs in labor rooms may be used for comfort when appropriate.
Collaborative option:
When a higher-risk condition develops, some patients may alternate visits between a physician and midwife while the care team determines the safest delivery plan.
Midwifery consultation script
“I am interested in midwifery care. Based on my pregnancy and health history, am I a candidate? Which hospital is used, how are complications handled, which services may require physician care and how does my insurance cover certified nurse-midwife services?”
Breast imaging preparation
How to prepare for an OCWMG mammogram
Orange Coast Women’s Medical Group partners with Hoag Breast Centers and offers mammography services interpreted by specialized breast-imaging radiologists.
Confirm screening versus diagnostic imaging
A screening mammogram is generally used when there are no breast symptoms. A lump, discharge, pain or prior abnormality may require a different appointment.
Transfer previous images
Complete the mammography release form early so comparison studies arrive before interpretation.
Choose a comfortable date
The practice suggests scheduling about one week after the menstrual period when breast tenderness may be lower.
Wear a two-piece outfit
The patient will need to remove clothing above the waist.
Do not apply chest or underarm products
Avoid deodorant, antiperspirant, powder, lotion and ointment because they may appear as white spots on the images.
Tell the technologist about pregnancy possibility
This is important before any X-ray-based examination.
Verify 2D and 3D coverage
Some plans may cover conventional mammography but handle the tomosynthesis portion differently.
Ask how results will be delivered
The practice says specialized interpretation may occur within approximately 24 to 48 hours, but additional imaging may still be requested.
Screening timing:
OCWMG’s page cites annual mammography beginning at age 40 for average-risk women. A personal or family history, genetic risk, breast symptoms or previous chest radiation may require a different plan.
Thermography is not a replacement for mammography.
The practice’s breast-imaging page warns that thermography is not an effective substitute for an approved breast-cancer screening mammogram.

Operative and minimally invasive care
What to know before gynecologic surgery
Orange Coast Women’s Medical Group publishes laparoscopic, robotic and other operative gynecology services. The exact facility, anesthesia, recovery and financial responsibility depend on the procedure.
Confirm the operation and alternatives
Ask why surgery is recommended, whether less-invasive treatment is reasonable and what happens if treatment is delayed.
Identify every billing entity
The surgical coordinator verifies the surgeon’s fee. Hospital, surgery center, anesthesia, laboratory, pathology and assistant charges may be separate.
Arrange a responsible adult
A rideshare may take the patient to the facility, but a responsible person must pick the patient up and care for them after discharge.
Follow fasting and medication instructions
Ask specifically about blood thinners, diabetes medicines, supplements and medications taken on surgery morning.
Plan work and activity restrictions
The clinician will explain when exercise, swimming, lifting, driving and sexual activity can resume.
Avoid premature air travel
The practice generally discourages air travel until the postoperative visit, often around two weeks, depending on the operation.
Know the cancellation deadline
A scheduled surgery cancelled for a non-medical reason with less than 72 business hours of notice may have a $250 fee.
Know postoperative warning signs
Ask for written instructions covering fever, bleeding, pain, breathing difficulty, wound concerns and emergency contacts.
Published procedure length:
The surgery FAQ says cases can range from approximately one to five hours. Arrival, preparation, anesthesia recovery and discharge make the facility stay longer than the operation itself.
Coverage and network verification
Insurance plans listed by Orange Coast Women’s Medical Group
The practice accepts many major products, but participation depends on the exact product, employer network, medical group, provider, procedure and hospital.

Medication requests
Prescription-refill timing and steps
Routine processing time:
Allow 24 to 72 hours during normal office hours. Do not wait until the medication is completely gone.
Contact the pharmacy
Ask the pharmacy to transmit the refill request electronically or fax it to 949-581-9158.
Use the patient portal
Routine refill requests may be submitted electronically through the portal.
Allow 24 to 72 hours
The provider may need to review recent visits, results, blood pressure or medication safety.
Do not call after hours for a routine refill
The answering service does not forward ordinary refill requests.
Controlled medicines require extra time
The published policy asks patients to allow three to five days and provides a separate extension for assistance.
Plan for nights and holidays
Request medicine early enough to account for weekends, office closures and pharmacy processing.
Urgent medication safety:
Do not use the refill process for a severe reaction, overdose, dangerous withdrawal symptoms or another emergency. Call 911 or seek urgent medical care when appropriate.
Medical-record requests
How to request or transfer OCWMG medical records
Choose the request direction
Decide whether records are being sent to OCWMG, released from OCWMG or transferred during pregnancy care.
Complete written authorization
HIPAA authorization is required before protected medical information can be released.
Specify the record type and dates
Identify pregnancy records, Pap or pathology reports, surgery records, mammography, laboratory results or the complete chart.
Provide the recipient
Give the medical office or patient destination and a secure fax, address or approved electronic destination.
Submit the signed authorization
The practice accepts fax, email or office drop-off, although it warns that ordinary unencrypted email is not secure.
Allow 15 business days
Ask for an estimated completion date and printed-page cost.
Use the portal for immediately available items
The patient portal may provide faster access to certain released reports and summaries.
Do not send incoming records on CD
The practice says records being submitted to OCWMG should be faxed, mailed or hand-carried; CDs are not accepted.

Local patient shortcuts
Orange County tips that can prevent repeat calls and missed visits
01
Check Irvine’s street number
The two Irvine offices are at 16105 and 16305 Sand Canyon Avenue.
02
Avoid lunch arrival
Established offices publish a noon-to-1:30 p.m. lunch closure.
03
Confirm Newport hours
The Campus Drive office is new and its full clinical schedule should be verified.
04
Use the portal for current patients
Secure messages, results, refill requests and billing are generally easier through Athenahealth.
05
Count business hours
Late-cancellation rules do not count weekends like ordinary calendar hours.
06
Move breast images early
Prior mammograms help the radiologist compare changes and may reduce unnecessary delays.
07
Separate provider and hospital costs
The maternity and surgery provider bill does not include every hospital, anesthesia or testing charge.
08
Choose the birth hospital
Confirm whether the plan is Hoag Irvine or Hoag Newport and save the correct labor number.
