88th Medical Group 2026: Appointments, Pharmacy & MHS GENESIS

Wright-Patterson AFB patient guide · Official details reviewed August 2026

Navigate Wright-Patterson Medical Center Without Missing the Right Clinic, Pharmacy or Portal Step

The 88th Medical Group operates one of the Air Force’s largest military treatment facilities, providing primary care, specialty treatment, emergency services, surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, imaging, women’s health, pediatrics and operational medicine to eligible beneficiaries.

Receiving care can involve more than one system. Appointments use MHS GENESIS or the central call center, off-base specialty care moves through Referral Management and TRICARE, laboratory visits use a separate scheduler, and pharmacy prescriptions must be activated before pickup.

Emergency warning: Call 911 for a threat to life, limb, eyesight or safety. The Wright-Patterson Emergency Department is open 24/7, but a patient with a life-threatening condition should use the nearest emergency department rather than delaying care to reach the base.

Start with the correct care route

Which 88th Medical Group service should you use?

PRIMARY OR SPECIALTY CARE Routine, preventive or ongoing condition

Use your assigned primary care manager for scheduled care, stable symptoms, chronic conditions, preventive services and referrals to specialty care.

Start with MHS GENESIS or 937-522-2778. Specialty services may require a referral or authorization.
NON-EMERGENCY PROMPT CARE Acute problem that cannot wait comfortably

Call the Nurse Advice Line, request a same-day appointment or use eligible Quick Care Connect virtual care when the condition is non-life-threatening.

Nurse Advice Line: 1-800-TRICARE. Virtual eligibility and operating windows are limited.
911 OR EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT Threat to life, limb, eyesight or safety

Use emergency services for severe symptoms, major trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, loss of consciousness or a medical or mental-health emergency.

Call 911. The Wright-Patterson Emergency Department remains open 24/7 at the main entrance.
Fast decision rule: Schedule stable care, call a nurse when you are unsure, and call 911 when waiting could endanger life, function, eyesight or safety.

The important procedures are explained on this page so official portals are mainly needed for the final appointment, login, activation, refill, referral or records action.

Appointment workflow

How to make an 88th Medical Group appointment

Confirm your DEERS and TRICARE information Make sure the patient’s eligibility, address, telephone number and assigned primary care manager are current before scheduling.
Choose the correct appointment category Explain whether the need is preventive care, a new illness, chronic-condition follow-up, medication management, a physical or specialty treatment.
Try MHS GENESIS Sign in to view available online scheduling. Not every clinic, provider or visit type offers online appointments.
Call when online booking is unavailable Use 937-522-APPT, or 937-522-2778, for appointment assistance.
Describe all important concerns Give the scheduler enough information to select the right clinic and visit length without trying to self-diagnose.
Ask whether a referral is required Specialty, mental-health, preventive and other services may require a referral or authorization depending on the patient’s status and TRICARE plan.
Confirm Wednesday and holiday status Do not assume a normal morning opening on Wednesday or around an operation-change day.
Save the clinic details Record the clinic, floor, room, provider, arrival time and direct telephone number.
Appointment call script

Review results in MHS GENESIS Laboratory results are made available through the patient portal after processing and release.
Walk-in reality: Walk-ins may be accepted, but the laboratory warns that patients without appointments can expect an extended wait.

How 88th Medical Group referrals work

The Referral Management Center books specialty referrals and helps patients understand whether care will occur at Wright-Patterson or through the civilian TRICARE network.

Confirm that the primary care manager entered the referral Ask for the specialty, reason, date and expected location.
Visit Referral Management before leaving The official clinic instructs patients who receive a referral from their PCM to visit the center before departing the hospital.
Determine whether care is on or off base Referral Management may book available military specialty care or route the request into the civilian network.
Check authorization status For an off-base network referral, use the TRICARE East beneficiary portal or call Humana Military.
Save the authorization details Record the civilian specialist, approved service, number of visits and expiration date.
Make sure civilian notes return Referral Management requests notes from off-base providers, uploads them to the electronic record and notifies the ordering provider.

Practical Wright-Patterson tips that prevent failed trips

01
Avoid Wednesday mornings

Most outpatient services remain closed for training until approximately 9:30 a.m.

02
Activate before pharmacy travel

A submitted prescription will not be prepared until the patient activates it.

03
Use Kittyhawk for off-base prescriptions

The Main Pharmacy is intended for new prescriptions from medical-center providers.

04
Schedule labs separately

The laboratory uses Thryv and no longer books through the central appointment line.

05
Carry outside lab orders

After May 15, 2026, outside orders must be brought in person rather than faxed.

06
Visit Referral Management before leaving

Doing so can clarify whether specialty care is on base or in the civilian network.

07
Verify medical-record fax numbers

Official pages currently display conflicting fax destinations, so call ROI first.

08
Plan for gate traffic

Installation access can take longer during morning and midday peak periods.

09
Check holiday operation days

Outpatient closures may extend beyond the federal holiday itself.
